Ruka stands a little north of Kuusamo in northeastern Finland and holds the longest season in the country: the lifts run from October to May, over two hundred days a year. The vertical is tiny, but there are plenty of runs and Ruka Park counts among the best in Finland. The place is known above all for the Nordic disciplines: the cross-country and ski jumping World Cup seasons open here. Nearby lies Oulanka National Park, crossed by the famous Karhunkierros trail.
