The ski season at Ruka runs from October to May. More than 200 ski days a year make the resort's season one of the longest among ski resorts in Europe. The secret lies in the climate, as well as high-quality snow groomers and snowmobiles.

Ruka Mountain (Fjäll) has 29 pistes of all difficulty levels. However, most of the resort's pistes are considered easy.

Ruka is praised for its snow reliability and long season: snow arrives in October and lasts until May, and almost all the pistes are lit. Visitors note the compact layout - lifts and accommodation are close together - and the strong parks.
Criticisms include the roughly 200 m vertical drop, very short pistes, and runs that end almost as soon as they begin. Another issue is crowding at the lower lifts during Finnish school holidays. Food and rental prices are also considered high.
