Suomu stands on the Suomutunturi fell in Finnish Lapland, right on the Arctic Circle not far from Kemijärvi. The area is tiny, four lifts, but the terrain covers every level and the season runs from early November to late April. December brings polar night, and the skiing happens in blue twilight under floodlights; by spring, the opposite, with the sun over the fells nearly round the clock.

What visitors say about the resort
Quiet and the absence of queues are what visitors praise: the slopes stay empty, lift waits are minimal, and after busy Ruka that feels like a relief. The runs are cut into the forest rather than laid across a bare fell, so they are not scoured by wind and the snow stays decent when conditions elsewhere deteriorate. Grooming is careful, staff are helpful, and the place suits families and people learning to ski.
Size and sameness draw criticism: there are only a handful of lifts and around ten runs, mostly red and none of them demanding, so a confident skier exhausts the place in a couple of days. Evening life and apres-ski are effectively nonexistent, and anyone wanting variety ends up at Ruka with several times as many lifts. The best conditions come late in the winter, towards February, and lodging is scattered, with some chalets over a kilometre from the slopes and the hotel.
