The praise is for the pistes: nearly all of them are wide, the steep reds included, and Artesina is considered the more serious half of the area, while neighbouring Prato Nevoso is given over to beginners. Most of the runs go through forest, so skiing is possible in flat light and wind and the lifts rarely close. There is night skiing, terrain parks and plenty for children.
Snow draws the criticism: Mondolè trails other Piedmont areas on quality, and in mild winters it shows. The second complaint is price, with some visitors finding the pass steep for an area of this size. Parking is hard at weekends and in the holidays, and arriving early is the usual advice.
