Hatsvali lies eight kilometres from Mestia, the main village of Svaneti, and is the only area in the region where you ski in forest: the runs are cut through fir, whereas neighbouring Tetnuldi sits entirely above the tree line. There are four lifts and nearly half the kilometres are graded difficult. A gondola climbs from Mestia. Further up the valley is Ushguli, one of the highest inhabited villages in Europe; Upper Svaneti with its clan towers is a World Heritage site.

What visitors say about the resort
Empty slopes are the strong point: the cable car has capacity to spare, so lift queues are effectively unknown, and reviewers call the grooming excellent. The gondola from Mestia itself counts as a major plus, a ten-minute ride instead of six kilometres of road. Tree skiing off the marked runs is appreciated, as are the two rental outlets with decent kit and matching prices, and the cost of skiing is moderate by Georgian standards.
Thinness of the offer is the complaint: there are few pistes, and unless you go off-piste the whole area is ridden out in a day, leaving a strong skier bored. Snow draws grumbles too, with accounts calling the potential huge while the cover simply was not there at the time. The cable car can stop in bad weather and the lower station is often found shut. The resort has one restaurant and a tiny hotel, so almost everyone stays in Mestia and there is no after-ski.
