Pylypets lies in the Transcarpathian part of the Ukrainian Carpathians, on the flanks of the Borzhava ridge. From the top of the double chair a snowcat carries skiers higher still, to the 1,491 m summit of Hymba, which opens onto the high meadows and the off-piste terrain. The pistes are mostly easy and there is no snowmaking. A couple of kilometres from the village is the Shypit waterfall, among the best known in the Carpathians, which freezes solid in winter.

What visitors say about the resort
What wins people over is the open Borzhava plateau: two mountains, long descents and a freeride area that reviewers reckon is larger than the marked pistes, which is why the place is rated among the country's best for off-piste. The chairlift turns all year round, queues seldom run past a quarter of an hour, and a trip here is cheap - private rooms and rental are affordable, and set lunches are the thrifty option.
Piste quality is the usual complaint: reviews describe glazed ice and broken lumps of it across the slope. The layout annoys people too, since the easiest run can only be reached by skiing down a red one. Snowmobiles are driven along the ski runs, and one guest reported food poisoning at a restaurant by the base. The summit is exposed and permanently windy, so the ride up and the skiing on top can be uncomfortably cold.
