Trostyan rises above the village of Slavske in the Lviv region and remains the best-known mountain in the Ukrainian Carpathians. In Soviet times it was one of the main national team training bases, and the old chairlifts to the summit still run. The vertical is 550 metres, the runs drop through long cuttings in beech forest, and more than half are intermediate. There is no snowmaking: the skiing is entirely on natural snow, and the winters here vary a great deal.

What visitors say about the resort
Skiers praise the vertical and the character of the hill: it offers the longest descent in Ukraine, some runs carry FIS certification, and the choice spans easy to black, with the southern run into the centre gentle enough for newcomers. Reviews return again and again to the scenery, the air, the local food and the welcoming hosts, and a share of visitors call the lift prices fair.
The hardware and the grooming get the complaints. The lifts are Soviet leftovers that were never modernised: slow, cold and unnerving, with broken chairs spotted, and not everyone risks riding up with a small child. Weekend queues stretch to twenty minutes, so regulars advise being there for the nine o'clock opening. Runs are rarely groomed and mostly steep, which is hard on beginners. Access is another gripe, since an ordinary car struggles on the approach, and some visitors find the prices unjustified.
