Zahar Berkut stands in the village of Volosianka in the Lviv region, a few kilometres from Slavske, and takes its name from Ivan Franko's novella about a Carpathian village defending itself against the Mongols. The lifts climb Vysokyy Verh, 1,223 m, giving over five hundred metres of vertical. The equipment is newer than at its neighbours: the chairlifts went up in the 2000s. The runs are mostly easy and there is no snowmaking.

What visitors say about the resort

The headline attraction is the chairlift, the longest in Ukraine, carrying skiers the best part of three kilometres up Vysokyi Verkh, and the fact that the mountain genuinely has a spread of difficulty, with blue, red and black runs for beginners and confident skiers alike. The base complex earns separate praise: clean rooms, well-tended grounds, a pool, a playground and gazebos, and friendly staff.

Capacity is the sore point: the long chair moves only around three hundred people an hour, so in high season the wait runs to about fifteen minutes on weekdays and half an hour at weekends. The chairs themselves are old, while prices are considered high. On one occasion a breakdown left eighty people stranded on the line. The skiing day ends early, with the last ascent no later than half past four and no floodlit evening skiing. Litter around the slopes is another recurring complaint.
