Worth knowing

Gudauri is the largest and highest ski resort in Georgia, and it continues to grow rapidly. Lifts take guests to 3,279 m on Mt. K Sadzele (3,307 m). There are slopes for all levels of skiing and snowboarding, and the pistes are FIS-certified. The winter sports resort also attracts visitors with its freeride and heli-skiing opportunities.

Abundant natural snow makes the surrounding peaks on the border between Europe and Asia ideal terrain for powder enthusiasts. The winter sports resort is located at Kreuz Pass, about 120 km north of Tbilisi. Here, in the Caucasus Mountains and away from mass tourism, a modern ski resort for all types of skiing has emerged.

Skiing, night skiing, cross-country trails, ski touring and snow activities are also available in Gudauri.

What visitors say about the resort

Reviews describe Gudauri as offering the best value for skiing in the region: the lift pass is several times cheaper than in Europe, the pistes are wide and open, and freeride and heli-skiing are available directly from the lifts. Visitors praise the reliable snow and long season, which lasts until April.

The main concerns are serious: the Georgian Military Highway closes in winter because of avalanches, and it can sometimes be impossible to reach or leave the resort for days. There is also avalanche danger off-piste and a weak rescue service. Visitors also complain about wind that stops the upper lifts and chaotic development.
