Ski resorts in Europe
Europe is the world's most concentrated ski region. The Alps account for the bulk of it: France, Austria, Switzerland and Italy are home to resorts with hundreds of kilometres of pistes, while neighbouring ski areas are linked by shared lift passes. The Pyrenees, Dolomites, Carpathians, Scandinavian Mountains and Caucasus are also within reach - each with its own snow conditions and prices.
The Alpine season runs from December to April, and longer on glaciers; in Scandinavia, snow remains on the ground until May. Classic destinations such as Kitzbühel stand alongside high-altitude French resorts and affordable resorts in Eastern Europe, so the choice comes down not to snow availability but to budget and holiday style. When planning a trip, it is worth checking excursion bookings in advance - during the off-season and on days with bad weather, they can be a lifesaver.
